About Cutter

The Cutter Project was formed because we wanted to share and spread our expertise in providing simple, cost-effective computer services. We have applied well (but not widely) understood techniques to offer an alternative to costly and unsustainable “traditional” installations. We use these alternative techniques ourselves and don't see why we should be the only ones to benefit.

Initially the company focused on a particular kind of thin client desktop solution and ancillary services predominantly suited to the schools market. As we have grown we have concentrated more and more on providing a range of solutions centred around low-cost and sustainable alternative to desktop PCs.

We have brought together concepts and software products from various parts of the computer industry. Each individually makes a difference; combined they seem cutting-edge, but when you look closer it's simply a good engineering solution using methods that those in the know have employed for a long time.

We think that our business approach is different too. Instead of having commission-oriented sales people who sell what is in their best interest, we have put ourselves in the place of our customers and thought ‘What would we do?’

We don't have a sales team at all. Most of our customers come to us by word of mouth from someone we already know. We keep our overheads low so that you don't have to pay for them. You don't have to fund a fleet of flash cars or expensive offices through high margins - instead we pass those savings on to you.

To get those word-of-mouth recommendations we have to deliver. Good service, good systems and good support are what counts. On that side at least we are delighted to be old-fashioned! If you want to talk to one of our customers or attend one of our briefing sessions held at a customer site, use the the contact form and we'll make the arrangements.

The company has an unusual structure. We don't have a central set of offices, instead our staff mostly work from home, making use of modern communication methods to replace the ability to shout across the office to a colleague. We don't clog up the roads with people commuting to work and our staff can put in a full day's work without the wearisome business of travelling back and forth. It also means that staff can live where they feel comfortable instead of having to uproot their family and move if they join us. If they have to move home for family reasons, that's no reason to change jobs at the same time (as the colleague who moved from East Anglia to Dubai can vouch).
